Rebels Hockey Development

Rebels Hockey Development Mission Statement

The Rebels Hockey Development Program is dedicated to fostering excellence in young hockey players by providing a high-quality environment that prioritizes development, character, integrity, education and respect.  We believe that every player has the potential to reach their highest level of success, and we are committed to helping them achieve this through personalized coaching, mentorship and opportunities for advancement in the sport of hockey.  Our goal is to nurture not only their skills on the ice, but also their character and ethics, so they can become successful athletes and individuals both on and off the ice.

Rebels Hockey Development Core Values

The core values of the Rebels Hockey Development program include:

Work ethic: We believe in working hard and putting in the effort required to achieve success.

Teamwork: We promote a collaborative approach to hockey, where players work together to achieve common goals.

Accountability: We encourage our athletes to take responsibility for their actions and decisions both on and off the ice.

Respect: We emphasize the importance of treating everyone involved in the game with respect, including teammates, officials, opponents, and coaches.

Integrity: We value honesty, fairness, and ethical conduct in all that we do.

Passion: We strive to instill a love for the sport of hockey in our athletes, inspiring them to pursue excellence with enthusiasm and energy.

Consistency: We aim to maintain a consistent approach to coaching and training, fostering a sense of stability and continuity for our athletes.

Development: We are committed to continually developing our athletes' skills, knowledge, and abilities in order to help them reach their full potential.

Choice: We recognize that each athlete is unique and has their own strengths, preferences, and goals. We aim to provide a range of opportunities and choices to help them explore and develop their individual talents and interests.

Rebels Hockey Development is based out of the County of Grande Prairie Alberta and are a member of the Hockey Super League. Our program offers a competitive regular season alternative for youth hockey players, wanting to take their talents to the next level. Prospective players are never limited by their geographics in order to play within our program, while having access to increased development on and off the ice, previously not offered in traditional hockey programs. Our program focuses on teaching hockey fundamentals with a consistent approach, while creating respect for the game, strong work ethic, commitment to achieving goals, good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership and the promotion of a winning attitude.

Officiating & Player Safety

All officials are trained by HSL and have an entirely different approach. We are required to work respectfully together and build relationships with our officials. In the contact divisions, there are modified checking rules to create more speed in a game and prevent game injuries, this is similar to the CIS & NCAA contact system. HSL has increased Friday games for contact divisions to allow additional rest over the course of the weekend. Currently there are 198 fully registered and insured officials in the HSL, with over 70% of referee assignments supervised by senior officials during the season.

Competitive Levels

Rebels Hockey Development will be offering a 2012 Major Team, 2012 Team, 2013 Major Team, 2013 Team, 2014 Team, 2015 Team, 2016 Team & 2017 Team for the 2024/25 Hockey Season.

There will be a 32-game regular season & Championship weekend Showcase. Game Showcases happen on average twice per month, with 3-4 games played each trip, averaging 9 travelling weekends per team. Home Showcases are at the discretion of HSL, but we have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to host some in prior seasons.

Practice time

Our season runs from September to the End of March. Dependent upon the team age, there are between 70-100 hours of practice ice time. This allows for up to 3 hours per team, per week, and practices times are on weekends and weekday evenings. We will utilize practice times and camps in conjunction with teams travelling for weekend showcases.
